Tour de France 2016: Top Banana stage 7

Today’s snack attack goes to the spritely South African Daryl Impey. Following 2015’s disastrous Tour for Orica-Greenedge, when half the team hit the deck in a mass pile-up on stage 3, resulting in a broken collarbone for Impey, the Aussie team needed a pick-me-up.

On a day finishing just after ascending the Col d’Aspin, you’d expect Adam Yates to be a more likely contender for stage honours. However, Yates had the misfortune to be the only rider to crash into a collapsed inflatable with a kilometre remaining, while up ahead Impey clung to fellow escapee Dani Navarro before outsprinting him for a well-deserved second place.

Last seen sporting a yellow jersey at the 2013 Tour, look out for the five-tine South African time-trial champion with a spotty yellow fruit in the morning.
