Team Dimension Data: Bicycles Change Lives

Team Dimension Data took a day out of training at their Cape Town camp to hand over 158 Qhubeka Buffalo bikes to the young people of Kylemore, in the heart of the Stellenbosch wine region.

Steve Cummings heads infield to present a student with a Buffalo bike. The learners earn their bicycles by improving school attendance and performance. Qhubeka has provided 10,500 bikes so far since launching its “Bicycles Change Lives” campaign.

Star-struck: Mark Cavendish meets and greets. He was organising Buffalo bike races within minutes…

A helping hand from Daniel Teklehaimanot, while Omar Fraile gets a ‘backie’. The beautiful Dwarsrivier Valley, at one point in South Africa’s colonial history home to the highest proportion of slaves in the country, remains afflicted by poverty and lack of transport. Qhubeka aims to mobilise and empower the community.

Head of performance Rolf Aldag gets stuck in, while Continental team rider Nicolas Dlamini tests the strength of a Buffalo bike.

Inspiration: a future champion in the making?

Signed, sealed, delivered: Cavendish makes his mark.

The full story of Nicolas Dlamini and Team Dimension Data will feature in January’s Rouleur magazine.
