Fabrizio Delmati is a legend of the Giro d’Italia, having shot 30 editions up to 2010.
When his book, Il Giro in Vetrina, arrived at the office, there were any number of contenders for the cover from a career photographing the greats of the last three decades, but it was this image that stood out for me.
I confess to having a weakness for the car-crash jersey designs of the 1990s, especially Italian and Spanish teams, where multiple sponsors’ logos are seemingly slapped on every available square inch of material at random.
The Polti kit, especially, was a classic of its era: so bad, it’s good – not that I would ever wear it, but I’m glad somebody else did.
