One thing that is unavoidable in a team consisting solely of Colombian riders is their faith in God.
Whilst their prayers and relaxation were left to private moments, I photographed Juan Pablo Valencia proudly baring his rosary before the 18th stage of the 2015 Vuelta a España.
He explained: “For me the rosary signifies confidence and provides me with God’s protection.
“I wear it when I ride because God is big and guides me in the right path. It gives me confidence in every pedal stroke from the start to finish of every race.”
